Why does your neck (or other muscles hurt) when you get the flu?!

Question: Why does your neck (or other muscles hurt) when you get the flu?
I am 26 years old and am having the flu for the first time...and this sucks. I see why people make such a big deal, I feel like a sumo wrestler sat on me.
But I was wondering...what specifically CAUSES the aches in your muscles when you get sick? Dehydration?
