Sick 5 yr old. cough wont go away even with medicine.?!

Question: Sick 5 yr old. cough wont go away even with medicine.?
I had asked earlier a similar question earlier but now it seems worse? My 5 year old has a cough stuffy nose and fever. I gave her Tylenol for the fever and PediaCare medicine for the cough and stuffy nose. (there is not a fever reducer in the PediaCare. Only a cough suppressant and nasal decongestant) its now been 3 hours and her cough has not stopped or lightened AT ALL her fever has broke but she is sweating very badly now. She is asleep so her cough is keeping her awake thank god.. But why does she still have this horrid cough? She has asthma as well so I had her take 2 puffs of her inhaler hoping it would help but nothng.. Any suggestions or ideas?

she's still coughing because her airways are still irritated.

if the coughing is getting worse & the OTC stuff isn't working then it may be time to take her to the doctor. Her cold may have turned into bronchitis or some other respiratory infection.

if the coughing isn't making her vomit then she's probably fine to wait until tomorrow morning or tomorrow afternoon to take her to the doctor.

GO TO THE DOCTOR NOW! Yahoo Answers is not a substitute for actual medical advice. At the very least call a clinic.

I was told that when you have a cold and start coughing more it's good and means that you're getting over it. But too much of that mucus can also be very bad, especially for a little kid, and I think you should have her stay home and rest as much as she can for a day or two (wait longer than 3 hours) with her body elevated--don't have her lay down, prop her up with pillows-- and if that doesn't work at all then get her to the doctor's to make sure nothing is seriously wrong.

That's my advice for a normal healthy 5 year old, but if your daughter has asthma she may have more difficulty with this illness than other children so if she doesn't get better at least half way through or at the end of the night I would consider taking her to the hospital.
Follow your instincts, no one knows a child better than their parents.
