Are hospital patients required take out body piercings?!

Question: Are hospital patients required take out body piercings?
I am living in the UK and am having chest surgery in summer, I have a bellybutton piercing and was wondering weather it would have to be removed, if so it will heal over I think..

More than likely, yes. You'll need to remove it if it's a metal bar. Just incase if you get a MRI. Unless you just had it pierced, you should be ok for a few days before it will heal over.

Also, if the piercing isn't brand new, you might be able to go to a head shop and purchase a plastic bar and insert it in to make sure it doesn't close.
