Causes:
1. Marilyn suffered from intense anxiety, insecurity, nervousness, and self doubt.
2. Marilyn had crippling insomnia. She suffered terribly from it, and took pills to help her sleep.
3. In the 1950s, doctors did not understand addiction and freely prescribed pills to stars to get a performance out of them
4. Marilyn was often overwhelmed by personal issues.

Effects:
1. Marilyn developed a tolerance to pills, causing her to need higher and higher doses
2. Her addiction sometimes interfered with her work, causing her to be late to the set.
3. She was unable to stop or ease off the amount of pills she was taking.
4. When she died, although she did NOT commit suicide and there's plenty of evidence to prove it, she had died of barbiturate overdose caused by Nembutal and Chloral Hydrate.
