The state gave me a medical card when I already have private health insurance?!

Question: The state gave me a medical card when I already have private health insurance?
When my son was born I had to sign him up for medicaid since I can't pay private health insurance
( MY health insurance is paid for by my dad under HIS employment plan ).
When I got the letter a few weeks ago, I saw that they gave me medicaid as well.
i don't want to use medicaid. I want to stay on my dads health insurance ( I can stay until I'm 26 ) and keep the doctors i have been seeing since I was young child.

Why did they do that?
Can I do this without risking my sons medicaid.
I really, really don't want to use this medical card for my self. I did not sign up for it myself anyways.

You can keep your private insurance and have medicaid. There's nothing against this, many people have private insurance and Medicaid. Your private insurance will be what's called your 'primary' insurance meaning they will have to pay the bill before anything is send to Medicaid for payment. Medicaid is considered the payor of last resort. Just keep the Medicaid card in your wallet and continue to do what you been doing. You're medicaid will never be used.
