It would help to know what part of the head is hurting. The front where the sinuses are, the back where tension headaches start, one sided which usually indicate migraines or right on top which is also usually from tension. Take a couple of pain relievers like Tylenol or Advil and put an ice pack on his head wrapped in a pillow case for 20-30 minutes. Sit really still. I would say your blood vessels in your head are engorged with blood and you need to constrict the vessels to get the blood out. That's why the ice pack works. It constricts the vessels, the blood runs out and the head stops hurting. I have had headaches all my life and this really works. Just relax while the ice pack is on your head for 20-30 minutes. If it is in the forehead you have a sinus headache and need sinus pills. Migraines usually have to sleep the headache off. These treatments should cover any headache he has.

What do YOU do? nothing. Give him paracetamol, or advise him to go to the doctor. My first initial thought is that headaches can often be caused by poor eyesight, so it may be worth giving the optician a visit.
