several ways. 1) Taking too many NSAID's including acetaminophen. 2) Eating too much spicy food that aggravates your stomach and produces an excess of HCl. 3) genetic predisposition. 4) bacterial infection with H. pylori. That is all I can think of at this moment. Hope this helps.
