Melatonin and dreaming?!

Question: Melatonin and dreaming?
I have tried doses of 3-12mg of melatonin to help fall asleep, as i have insomnia. it seems to have little to no effect. I am more interested in the dreams it is alleged to cause tho, on wikipedia it states that 50mg will cause intense REM sleep. Has anyone had experiences with such high doses and dreams? (p.s. there is no lethal dose for it, and can not harm you)

I have found an increase in vivid dreaming on a nightly melatonin dose of only 3mg. I suggest you do a little more research on "melatonin overdose" on the Internet. Too much is not safe, and more than 5mg won't help you sleep any better. I take it because as a senior, my body is not manufacturing enough melatonin to give me a good night's sleep. It works for me, but it probably won't work for a younger person if there are other factors involved, such as worries, stress, or a medical condition. Try shutting off your TV and computer, and dimming the room lights for about an hour before you want to go to sleep, do something very relaxing during that hour. I read a good book for about 15-20 minutes before turning off the final reading lamp.

You have been taken the wrong dose of melatonin to induce sleep. In a darken room, the Pineal gland in the brain secretes about 3 ug(micrograms).I use glasses that block the blue light emitted by TV, computer screen, home and kitcken lights. Go to www.lowbluelights.com and read about former GE physicists would research and sell products to help one sleep. The glasses take about a week to trick your brain to start releasing melatonin to bring on sleep. I live in Houston, Texas, and to educate yourself about sleep problems, read about a physician who will offer information on sleep technology. Perhaps there is a similar physician in your city who can help you find sleep. Go to houstonsleep.net.

Ive taken alot of melatonin before but not quite 50 mg, you build tolerance with it and it stop working.
