how can i not get sick when im in a car?!

Question: How can i not get sick when im in a car?
Every time i get in a car i feel really nauseous. it doesn't matter if i am driving, in the passenger seat, or in the back. Once i get out of the car it doesn't go away. It happens every single time. It didn't ever used to, but it has been for about a week now. i have tried rolling down the window, looking straight ahead. and many other things like that. but nothing has helped. it is getting to the point where i don't want to drive anywhere any more (but i don't have a choice). I don't just feel a little sick, i feel terrible! Any ideas? thanks.

It may sound obvious, but make sure you drive carefully. The absolute worse is city type driving, not just the turning corners, but most significantly accellerating and decellerating, sudden stops etc.

Dont read, watch videos, play games. Definitely dont follow Dr Toms advice and start trying to play games which involve 'spotting' and concentrating on things outside of the vehicle. If possible ensure plenty of fresh air, and make sure the heating isnt on. Sometimes a bunch of fragrant herbs (such as mint) is really nice to have fresh: to stick under your nose when things are bad

Dont let other people smoke, eat smelly food, make a lot of noise (travel sickness often comes with headaches and migrane type symptoms)

Avoid tea coffee chocolate and generally any sweet food : immediately before, during or immediately after the journey.

Try to travel on an empty stomach and if you do start feeling sick nibble on dry /dry and salty food (such as crackers, plain crisps) during the journey. If its a long journey nibble small and often and take plenty of fresh air walking around breaks.

When and only of it gets really bad, resort to sucking sweets (preferably ginger or mint), sipping fizzy drinks (ginger ale/cola) or a cold tea made from fresh ginger root and hot water. I find sugar makes things really quite bad.

when its bad try slow deep breathing through your open mouth.

Wear sunglasses in a moving vehicle.

Most importantly if you can: SETTLE DOWN AND GO TO SLEEP ( I was and am a champion 5- minutes- in- car- napper), rest when you get to the other end if only for 10 minutes before hurtling off.

Try not to make too many journeys in succession (if I have been on a journey over 30 minutes one day I would try not to travel the next day as it can set off a cycle of extreme sensitivity).

Finally, I learnt to ride a motorbike when I was in my 30's and it has changed my life. My decisions to travel/visit friends etc is no longer at the beck and call of my travel sickness: now I only have the weather and irresponsible road users to contend with!

Those acupuncture bracelets really help. You can pick them up from travel stores. I have a couple that I wear every time I go traveling and I never get sick anymore. They don't cost much so you should try them out. If it doesn't help, it might be a psychosomatic problem, like a phobia, in which case you should get therapy. I hope I helped.

try not to brake as much, and maybe take brakes on longer drives it will probably be easier on your body

Get some meds they sell meds for car sickness that you take daily
