Question about hypoglycemia?!

Question: Question about hypoglycemia?
I have hypoglycemia and I have for as long as a remember. The thing is, I've started to go horseback riding a lot now that I have my own horse. Horseback riding takes a lot out of you, and if I haven't eaten breakfast the morning I go riding, then I'm falling off horses, getting really dizzy, passed out, and have violently gotten sick before. My question is: what kinds of food should I eat for breakfast before going out riding? I really can't afford to be such a weakling around these powerful animals. I need something that can keep me going until lunch time. Thanks in advanced!

Answers:

Hypoglycemia is controlled by controlled eating. NEVER do anything without eating breakfast! You have been fasting -- not a great technique for anyone.

When I used to race (running), I found that if I mixed the right stuff into a smoothie, it would provide a long slow burn. Start with a banana, full of carbs (both sugars and starch). Add some cottage cheese, not the fat-free, for protein and fat. Finish it off with something that will make you want to drink it, such as some frozen strawberries, some flavored yogurt, whatever. You will want some ice in it also. Thin it with milk or orange juice, your choice. This is a LARGE smoothie, so sip it slowly through a straw. I used to add wheat germ, just for the hell of it.

The reason for the smoothie, rather than eating things, is to provide the same nutrition without having to chew each component thoroughly.
