Can stroke victims read and write?!

Question: Can stroke victims read and write?
I keep hearing that people who have had strokes may be unable to understand or formulate speech. But does that mean they can't communicate at all, or can they read and write to communicate?

Answers:

It depends on where the stroke was, what was affected, and how severe it was.
SOME can read and write, others can not; some can talk well, others can not; etc.

Husband had masive stroke, NO gag reflex for over a month, writing became poor, speech somewhat affected as was mobility; concentration and coordination became poor.

Stroke can be minor or very severe. I have had two strokes, both while in the hospital. I have no trouble communicating and only have a slight loss of coordination on the left side of my body. I do have trouble remembering names, but that is the only mental thing that I know of. I live the same life I led before the strokes.

been there, done that.

It depends on the stroke. Nearly all can read, but writing can be hard if the stroke affected the hands.

Depends on how bad the stroke is some can recover well others not so well.
