can stress/anxiety cause you to become physically ill?!

Question: Can stress/anxiety cause you to become physically ill?
I'm asking because, besides the obvious (germs), I want to know if it's possible for stress/anxiety to cause a person to become physically ill.
For example: Frequent, painful chest pains, nausea & stomach aches, loss of appetite, headaches, feelings of exhaustion, sleeplessness
All of the above I have been experiencing daily, and every single time I do I worry that I am making myself sick with stress.
(Just as an informant for the above, I HAVE been extremely stressed with a vast number of personal & academic related issues, as well as lack of sleeping/proper diet. I also have Generalized Anxiety Disorder)
So is it possible that I'm unintentionally making myself ill? Also, what should I do about it.
BTW, suggesting that I eat better & sleep more are not going to work. Of course I can change my diet, but the sleepless thing is out of my control. I have little time to do all of the things I need to do, and when I try to sleep, I simply can't fall/stay asleep.
Thanks for the advice! I'm looking forward to some insight.

I've been in your exact situation recently actually. Loads of bad personal stuff happened all at one time and I was just stressed completely. I'd get nausea and terrible stomach/back indigestion pain. Since i've stopped being so stressed and calmed about things i'm feeling a lot better health wise. I don't know for sure whether it does but in my case it seemed to.

Anxiety and stress can make you physically ill. Extreme stress can aggravate anxiety symptoms that causes most of what you listed. It can also weaken your immune system and acquire another illness if kept at that state along with low food diet for too long. I cant say for sure about what tips I can tell you for this problem but. . . I would say exercise during the day is a good de-stresser and aids a little for sleep. The other option is going to the doctor for a check up and possibly get pills for it.

Yes it is very possible. You need somebody to talk to, that kind of stress is hard to manage on your own. You might also consider to get a physical examination just to make sure that there isn't any other issues that need to be addressed.

Life

definition of ill is needed.

Yes it can. If you don't eat or sleep well you can get some serious illness. Talk to your doctor and get a psychiatrist. I also had depression and anxiety. For nausea I buy some stomach pills and it helps me with it. You can get it at a pharmacy without a prescription. I used to take anxiety and depression pills but no no more. I also realized the more I think about it, the worse it gets. Try to take a sport/ hobby class that you like to get your mind off things. Also i noticed when I exercise I feel better. Good luck. Hope you feel better.

Hi

I can tell you from experience that you might be suffering from depression. The symptoms you provide do point to depression and stress is definitely something that can trigger it. My advice would be to go to the Dr ASAP, it sounds like you really need a push in helping to deal with your feelings and also the physical symptoms. I suffer from all of the above, not because of any physical problem, but because of the depression. The sooner you deal with it, the sooner it gets mended.

Here is some info about the symptoms of depression:

It can be sorted, don't think it can't be. :)

Own Experience

maybe, just try to calm down and you should be fine :D

as a last resort:
i dont wanna seem like a stoner or anything but if ur 18 or older try to get a medical card (if its legal in your state), weed actually does help a lot with stress and stuff like that, it actually is a medicine, people just get really stupid with it, i used to be stressed all the time and ever since i started smoking weed i have become more calmer and a little happier, they sell weed brownies, lollipops etc... so u dont have to smoke it if u dont want to :D
