Someone who snorts Xanax could have his/her breathing slowed to the point of stopping, especially if the amount were high or if it was combined with other drugs/alcohol. It is an abuse of a controlled substance, as it is never prescribed to be taken intranasally (via "snorting").

Prescription drugs should be taken as prescribed, by the person to which they are prescribed, for the condition for which they are prescribed--- or not at all.
