How quickly does my hearing get damaged?!

Question: How quickly does my hearing get damaged?
I am very worried that how quickly my hearing gets damaged. I listened to 3 songs with my headphones quite loudly. That is about 10-12 minutes. Things around me sound a little different, as always after listening to headphones. Can my hearing be permanently damaged that quickly? Do you have some advice or own experience? Thanks

Answers:

Yes, exposure to very loud sounds can permanently damage your hearing that quickly, particularly if it is repeated exposure. Many factors come into play, for instance, earbud headphones are one of the worst things you can use, over the ear "ear goggles" and the old 1980's style of headband headphones are better, and listening on a stereo with real speakers are better, but, consider that, depending on the labour laws in your local area, but here, any repeated or prolonged exposure in the workplace of 90 decibels or above requires that all workers wear hearing protection. take a look at the chart located here...

90 decibels isn't really that loud. it's about at loud as a heavy truck (or LRT train).

I love loud music, too, but be careful.
