what types of food causes black stool? Can your period be the cause?!

Question: What types of food causes black stool? Can your period be the cause?
I um read up on it and it simply said dark coloured foods, but that couldn't be it. also I'm a vegetarian and i do not take iron pills so i'm pretty sure excess iron would not be the cause. It also said internal bleeding... I just started my flow, so could that in some way count as internal bleeding?

If you have black stools and you haven't eaten any oreos lately, then you need to see a doctor pronto. Internal bleeding may not be the cause, but it is a dire emergency that you get it checked out just to be certain.
Also: your period blood is usually bright or dark red and shows up on the toilet paper in that way. Try using a tampon and then see if your stool is still black. (although I hope you try this experiment *after* seeing a doctor) If it is, then it's coming from inside of you. There is no leaking between the vagina and the anus, so period blood can't "get in there" and discolor the feces.

I have a disease which causes gastric bleeding

No, your period does not in any way count as internal bleeding. Black stool occurs when you are bleeding internally and then digest the blood. This is very bad. If you have this then you should see a doctor immediately. As in, get up off your computer, grab your purse and keys (if you have a car) and make your way to either your regular doctor or an Emergency Room right now.

the only way I know of, but not the only possibility for black stool is internal bleeding, but you may want to see your health professional for these kind of matters.

If you have chronic black stool that is a problem, and you can always have that tested routinely, just because.

Possibly but black stool is a sign of internal bleeding.
