Everyone says I'm too skinny, am I?!

Question: Everyone says I'm too skinny, am I?
I'm 12-year-old guy (nearly 13) and I weigh 73 lbs, but I'm only 5ft. Everyone says I'm too skinny and I should eat more, but I eat loads already. My ribs stick out a little bit but not much.

Last week at school we all had to be weighed by the school nurse and she said I'm underweight and she would need to send a letter home to my parents. But when my mom gets it I know she's going to take me to the doctor, but I don't want to go I'm fine! I ate a Big Mac for dinner that day but how else can I put on weight?

Some boys are late having their growth spurts. I bet by the time you are 16, you'll be about 5'10'' and 155 pounds. Just ignore everyone for now.

Eat carbs. It's the easiest way to gain weight. It sounds like you're underweight for your age and gender, but it may just be a phase-- many people fluctuate between high and low body weight periods in their lives, especially in their teenage years. If you take any medication, that might also have something to do with it, since some medications make you lose your appetite without even noticing. I wouldn't worry too much about going to the doctor for an exam-- it might actually be a good opportunity to find out if your low weight isn't due to something more serious

If you run around a lot and exercise you most likely wear the food off that you just ate so next time you eat you should maybe just sit down and watch t.v or do home work don't run around as much :) hope that helped

Google "calculate BMI" and find out for yourself how much you should weigh.
Gaining or losing weight is about the number of calories you consume and the amount of exercise you get.
To gain weight, add more calories to your diet. Because you are still growing, you probably need at least 2500 calories a day. They should be broken into 3 categories; protein, carbohydrates, and fats.
A boy your ae and size should take in approximately 90 grams of protein a day, or 810 calories. About 30% of your intake should be fats, with the balance being carbohydrates (fruit, vegetables, legumes, and whole grains). You should have at least 4 , 1/2 cup servings of fruit, and 5 servings of vegetables. Veggies are very filling, so thy will help you feel full..
A pound of weight is 3300 calories above and beyond what you would normally eat. So, in order to gain a pound a week, you'd need to eat an extra 3300 calories during that period.
You can Google "RDAs for teens" for a complete breakdown.
