Question: Can Margarine go bad? Can it make you sick?
I made some bread and butter (blue bonnet margarine actually) tonight with dinner. It tasted a little weird to me.. but everyone else said it tasted fine. We've not had it much more than a month.. we go through it pretty quick usually. I do think one time last week, it got left out for a couple of hours on the counter... but we got it put away. Just wondering if it were a little sour if it would hurt us? It really didn't smell bad.. just a little after taste to me.

yes it can go bad or "rancid". it's made from vegetable oil and if it gets old it can start to turn. it may have been your taste buds at the time but it would take a lot to make you sick.
you should be just fine but maybe a bit gassy. if you have a dog to blame it on you have your bases covered.

p.s. margarine is NOT a healthy form of fat. It should be avoided.
