When should I see a doctor for kidney stones?!

Question: When should I see a doctor for kidney stones?
I had a kidney stone pass about 8 months ago and I believe I'm experiencing another one(sharp pain in the side).. anyways, I still have lots of lortab and ibuprofen from that. This will be my second stone. When should I see a doctor about it if I decided to let nature run its course?

If your pain medication can handle it and if you can handle it you might not need to see a doctor at all. If you have not passed the stone in 48 to 72 hours and if the stone seems to be stuck then you might need to go to the ER. My spouse has passed more than 300 kidney stones over the years, and been to the doctor or ER about them only a handful of times. What the doctor helps with is the treatment to prevent their recurrence as much as possible.
