is lasik safe i am really thinking of doing this?!

Quite honestly if you're worried about something being "safe" why don't you stick to contact lenses?
With surgeries there is always a risk that someone will mess up or something might go wrong, which with an eye surgery could result in you going blind, etc.

I had my Lasik surgery done several years ago and had absolutely no problems with it. The only thing and the doctor warned me of this, I would become extremely far sighted in my 50's and I have. I can see at a distance great. But I went from being able to read a book and do close-up work with no glasses on, to having to wear glasses all day to work on my computer and read.

As far as the procedure, I was wide awake for it (though the doc did give me a very small dose of valium to help keep my calm) and within 10 minutes I was done. No pain, no worries. All I saw was a very bright light.....they flooded my eyes with some sort of a numbing agent and then told me to keep staring into the light and not move my eye. I don't think I could have moved the eye if I wanted to, the numbing agent took that ability away for a very short period of time. I had a great doctor that was very calm and matter of fact about the procedure-which kept me calm.

I asked my eye doctor if it's safe, and he said " I think so, but I would prefer to play it safe by continuing to wear contact lenses".

Someone once told me that during the surgery, you can smell something burning when the laser is working on your eyes. Not for me.

Nothing is really safe, but if contacts/glasses are giving you a hard time it would be worth a try. Chances are your eye sight will improve. O-o
