MDMA (ecstasy) rises the body temp and increases heart rate. That's why people need to stay hydrated and drink water/take breaks. It does not counteract the effects of the drug. Water doesn't counter act many drugs, though it does help with alcohol.

Ecstasy gives you an energy boost, so people tend to be physically active while on ecstasy, which makes you sweat, which dehydrates you, so people drink water to stay hydrated (dehydration plus physical activity can lead to a dangerous increase in body temperature). Any stimulant will have the same effect, whether it is ecstasy, methamphetamine, or cocaine. Staying hydrated can lessen the hangover the following day, but it doesn't really help with the side effects. Any time you are physically active, whether you are using drugs or participating in a sporting event, you should drink water to stay hydrated.
