What is wrong with my hearing?!

Question: What is wrong with my hearing?
Can someone please suggest what could be wrong? If there is anything wrong.
Okay well my hearing in the past year or so has decreased, my father has two hearing aids fitted has he has lost over 80% in one ear due to meneires disease. Well I am 17 and the past year I have found hearing quiet difficult. I can hear what people say but they make no sense to me, I work in a shop and I find it embarrassing when people ask or talk to me and I can't hear what they are saying, I find that I have to ask them again what they say. As I said I can hear what they say but just about.
What could this be? My father has hearing difficulties with hearing aids, and my mother also has hearing problems. Please help... I am only 17. Thank you.

You need to be seen by an Ear Nose and throat Dr. Who is a medical Dr. And by a licensed audiologist who is a hearing Dr. Menieres is a very serious disease that affects both hearing and balance and can be genetic. With such an in depth history of family hearing loss you need to be monitored by a medical doctor. Sometimes things that cause hearing loss can be prevented or managed in a way that minimizes hearing loss. I hope that you are wearing hearing protection in noisey environments. Anything that's louder than a blender like a shop tool or a lawnmower you need earplugs.
Secondly, please make sure you visit an Audiologist and an ENT. They both have at least 4 years of education in addition to 4 years of college where a hearing aid dispenser may only have a high school degree. And for goodness sake, please don't buy your hearing aids over the Internet, that is the worst thing you can do for your hearing. You get no fitting advice and no medical care. Sometimes hearing loss can be fixed medically instead of just adding amplification and that's what you need to find out first. Also, it is illegal for a hearing aid dispenser to dispense hearing aids to anyone under the age of 18 without being seen by a medical dr. first. I hope you seek professional help, once your hearing is gone you can't ever truly get it back! So take care of it!

I am an Audiology doctoral student.
