My friend used heroin! How adictive is it?!

Question: My friend used heroin! How adictive is it?
I'm woried about my housemate, i knew She regularly smokes Pot and sometimes takes E on weekends. However last weekend after taking E she was apparently 'offered' an ammount of Heroin from a friend for what She calls 'coming down' I was obviously worried, but she told me She only smoked a small ammount of it and no injecting was done. I told her she could get hooked, but She told me you can't get hooked from your first time. Is this true and what can i do that won't ruin our friendship? (We are both at Uni)

Of course a person can get addicted their first time using any drug, and it makes no difference what drug it is.And,when it comes to heroin...this type of drug..whether it's smoked, injected or snorted can be highly addictive the first time. It's obvious your room mate has not been educated very well when it comes to illicit drug use and how addictive and dangerous it can be.As for what you can possibly do to help her that possibly won't ruin your friendship? You can ask her to get help...the time will come if she continues to use/experiment with these drugs, that she will end up getting addicted. No doubt about it.You can ask her to seek help before this even becomes an issue. This is very common for marijuana users...they start out smoking weed, and usually end up using harder drugs...as you now see your friend/room mate doing.Just ask her to seek help/counseling before this gets out of control, and be there if she decides to take your advice. You could also go to your uni's counselor and ask about other possible options..IF your friend/room mate doesn't take the advice you offered. What may end up happening is your friend/room mate will not take any of your advice, and this entire living situation may get unbearable for the 2 of you...meaning her drug use.
I hope everything works out for the 2 of you,and your friend/room mate gets the help she needs. All the best.

First of all you should be aware that if she is caught in your apartment with drugs you will also be arrested weither you know about it or not. Secondly most schools..even colleges and universities have a anoymous hotline you can call to report drug abuse. If you don't have any way of doing that I would suggest telling someone she trusts and will listen to like her parents or an instructor. A lot of times someone who has a drug problem doesn't see it as a problem.
