My mom is sick....dad won't take her in!!?!

Question: My mom is sick....dad won't take her in!!?
Hey guys,

I really need your help. So my mom has a cold/fever and has been coughing and wheezing so much that its difficult for her to breathe at night. She wants to go to the doctor now but the problem is that my dad wont take her, and here are his reasons:
1) The doctor will say the same thing, to take an inhalar which we already have, but my mom doesn't use it because it makes her throw up
2) "our body heals itself naturally"
we used to have kaiser health insurance but we switched out because it got very expensive, to something called signa or something... well whatever it is, we cant go to the doctors as often... i beleive.. anyway I want to take my mom the hospital but I cant drive (i was too lazy and never ended up getting my permit/license) so I told my mom to go with one of her friends. my mom doesn't want to go to the emergency room or anything because it costs a lot of money and that my dad HATES.
yes, my dad is very frugal... and thats the problem

so my mom has an appointment on friday so my dad is refusing to do anything right now, and my mom doesn't want to wait that long because its very hard for her to stay with the cough.. so she wants to get it checked sooner..
and now I don't know what to do. My dad thinks hes some big doctor that he can cure my mom and he knows what meds to give her (hes an engineer) ... and he doesn't like being told what to do, he has a big ego.
so what do you suggest i do? I need help..
thanks guys!!

Answers:

I go through this regularly with a family member. The inhaler will not work. It CANNOT work. The inhaler dilates the breathing passages, but that's not the problem. Your mom probably has bronchitis, and will need a special cough syrup for that, which will suppress the coughing and allow her to get some sleep, so her body can heal.

Your dad is so tightfisted that he would apparently rather see your mom die than get help for her.

One thing you might consider is going to a doc-in-the-box also known as an an urgent-care walk-in clinic. Try your local Rite-Aid and so on.

Get someone else in the family to take her.
Ignore your dad, and tell him the inhaler makes her sicker than she is.
