Why do tonsils become swollen?!

Question: Why do tonsils become swollen?
Mine have been swollen for about a year or so, might have to get them removed. Why do they get so huge in the first place?

Answers:

Tonsils protect germs and bacteria getting to other areas in your body but in some people that have constant problems with tonsillitis repeatedly this leaves scarring on the tonsils and some people their tonsils swell so much it can be a threat to they're breathing etc in these extreme cases surgeons now still remove them otherwise they prefer you to keep them if you get mild doses of tonsillitis now as they know that they do play a part in stopping germs going to other places if they have said you have to have them out then you do because they have become a major problem for You Hope this helps Hugs for you Ouchy! Most likely you are allergic to something that is causing it. It could be something in the air like mold and pollen or it could be something you eat. Go to an allergy doctor and get tested to see if you are allergic to something and if you should get treatment for it. He will advise if your tonsils should come out, but you will most likely still need to either stay away from whatever you are allergic to or get treatment. Some people are allergic to dust mites and have to put their pillow in a special casing, wash bed linens more often and in hot water, and put a special cover on the mattress.

They are a gland like any other in your body....they catch an hold infection that's in your body to keep it from spreading
