I think a small waist accents the curvature of a womans hips. This has been associated with fertility in many cultures and may explain our "desire" for a shapely woman.

Most likely human nature.I've met very few men that like a wide waist line on a woman.I myself don't find a man very attractive with a wide waist line.A waist line around 32 to 34 inches is what I like in a man.Not so much seeing a man's waist at 44 to 46.That's not so attractive on either sex.My opinion anyway.I think it comes down to human nature and personal preference.

A small waist makes a woman look more curvy. It's all about curves. Curves makes a woman look more fertile. It's in our genes.
