Inexplicable Urge to Jump Off A High Building and/or Bridge?!

Question: Inexplicable Urge to Jump Off A High Building and/or Bridge?
Is there anybody else who gets this feeling? I'm not suicidal, but when I get near a ledge or any height, I feel this urge to jump. It's very powerful. Now, it's not so powerful that I'm going to actually do it. I know that for sure, but the fact that I even have this urge scares the hell out of me. Is this normal? Does anybody have experience with this. It would be interesting to read some comments on this. Thanks for your answers.

OMG--I didn't think anyone else had this "death wish". I also get a powerful urge to jump off a high structure and I am scared to death of heights. When I was at the Hoover Dam I could actually picture and feel my legs climbing over and jumping. I wasn't scared at the time but afterwards I was scared that I had that type of reaction. I am not suicidal either. Weird isn't it? (Stay away from heights if at all possible...we need you around

Wow yeah I have all my life and thought every one did too. I have such bad urges that I stay away from and fear heights. Watching the movie "stranger than fiction" where that question is posed. It appears as if some people do and some don't. I would imagine there is a scientific reasoning but hell if I know.

Perhaps you could join a parachuting club or a skydiving club or even a hang gliding club.

Sure it is normal it is also normal to yell out Geronimo as you are about to do it.

yes... and as funny as it sounds, sometimes i wonder what would happen if i stuck my hand in a garbage disposal.... its curiosity...

I think you should talk to your doctor..you may have some sort of impulsive disorder..good luck.

do a flip

Interesting question, and I can relate to what you're saying here.

When I was a kid, my brother and I spent our school holidays in Melbourne at my grandmother's house. She lived next to a railway line, and my brother and I were utterly obsessed with the constant parade of trains. We'd spend hours hovering on the embankment, watching them choof past, and we'd often scramble down and put our ears on the warm railway lines to hear the faint rumble of the approaching trains.

Sometimes - disturbingly - we'd get an inexplicable urge to run across the railway lines as the trains were approaching, and we actually DID do it. Many times.

Like you, it wasn't a death wish, just an urge to have some adrenalin-fuelled fun, plus it became a competition between my brother and I, to see who could put the smallest distance between us and the train.

But one day as I raced across in front of an approaching train, my blue flip-flop caught in the rails. I had no option but to leave my flip-flop and run to safety. Needless to say, the poor flip-flop was mangled. My brother and I were both pretty shaken. The very real threat of death certainly put an end to this crazy activity!

Relax, you're not crazy, just fun-loving!
