why is my heart rate so high?!

Question: Why is my heart rate so high?
I was sick all of yesterday with a flu of some sort and I had a fever.. My heart rate was between 96-108 and it scared me. I don't know if that's serious or if I'm just freakin myself out.

I'm 22 and I have a really bad anxiety disorder, I constantly check my pulse because I'm deathly afraid of having a heart attack. Doctors keep telling me my heart sounds great and I should lose Little weight though.

I just got woken up out of a dead sleep with my heart beating so freakin fast, so I took a Xanax, it slowed it alittle bit but not enough.

Please someone tell me if I'm just trippin or if I really do need to go to the ER.

Answers:

Dude. Chill.

Reason #1:
Your heart rate is supposed to speed up when you have a fever. That's normal.

Reason #2:
Anxiety and nervousness also lead to an increased heart rate. In your case, the increasedy heart rate leads to more anxiety. To break the circle, try distracting yourself by doing something you like. As long as yout heart is healthy (your doc is certainly right on this), it is impossible to frighten yourself to death. The worst that can happen is that you hyperventilate and (harmlessly!) faint.

My heart rate also is often near 100 even when I am not sick and not moving much. For someone untrained like me, totally normal.

Have you used any drugs? That will affect you heart rate.

Not only drugs...but are you taking any 'herbal' or 'natural' supplements.

Some are just as dangerous.
