IM injection left weird bruise?!
Question: IM injection left weird bruise?
Also, I received another IM injection in my R deltoid the same day (Tdap booster). The muscle surrounding the injection site is very firm; when I raise my arm there is an evident "lump" of my deltoid muscle. I have no idea what to make of this. Any MDs, nurses, etc out there have any opinions? Is this something worth worrying over or am I being paranoid? I am returning to the clinic today to have a TB skin test read that was placed the same day as I received the injections.
Thanks!
Answers:
good grief, you must feel like a pin cushion. Bruising is bleeding under the skin as you probably know already. You don't have to inject into a vessel to produce bleeding, as you guessed another vessel was nicked.
"Temporary Side Effects (TDAP)
There also are several relatively common, temporary side effects that most likely won't require medical attention. These types of side effects should fade and disappear after a short time. If they do not, then call a doctor for help. The most common of these types of side effects include pain, tenderness, swelling or redness at the injection site; diarrhea; a lump in the skin at the injection site; or a fever of at least 99.5 degrees fahrenheit or 37.5 degrees celsius. If a lump develops, it might last several weeks, according to the Mayo Clinic.."
