What will my doctor do to me when I see him, and what will he advise me to do wh!

Question: What will my doctor do to me when I see him, and what will he advise me to do when he finds out I'm obese? ?
Hi I'm 13 and I'm thinking of making an appointment to see my doctor (general check up) and I know he will weigh me. I weigh like 14 stone so what will he do? Will he do other tests like for diabetes or something and what will he say I do? Will he give me a diet plan and tell me to make another appointment to see how I'm doing?

Answers:

First of all disregard everything that Lils said. No way in the world would they EVER do Lap Band surgery on a 13 year old. Second, there are a lot of side effects with the Lap Band for her to claim you won't feel a thing, death being a side effect. I know as I have researched having the surgery myself. Third, being overweight CAN bring on diabetes no matter your age. With all of that out of the way, I will say that Im not sure how much 14 stone is in regard to pounds . However, I myself have been overweight most of my life. Your doctor may SUGGEST that you eat healthier and exercise more. If he is concerned about the diabetes factor, which if you aren't having symptoms I'm sure he won't be, he may get you to drink a cup of a really sweet liquid and do a blood test to check your sugar levels. I wouldn't be too concerned with the Dr doing much else. Some kids are overweight and tend to grow out of it, others such as myself wil struggle with it their entire lives. Either way live your life to its fullest and be happy with who you are :)

Most likely the second one. Don't worry you'll be fine, with a little healthy food and exercise you'll be rolling. :) Of course if you're seriously over-weight you may have to have a Gastric Band fitted which reduces the size of your stomach so you can only take so much food. It won't hurt you or cause any pain but that way you'll be guaranteed to lose weight :) Diabetes has nothing to do with the fact that you're over-weight so that won't be the problem though he may run a couple of tests. Plus I think you're a bit young to have diabetes anyway although anyone can get it.

Knowledge and common sense

he will do tests for diabetes as it is a big thing as my dad is a diabetic he/she will also do a cholesterol count maby put you on a diet which will be a good thing for you as it can also lead to depression but talk to your dock and ask as many questions as possible if there is something you do not understand then get him/her to explain hope this helps you

He will advise you to reduce your weight, eat fewer calories and take much more exercise. It is also possible that he will refer you to a dietitian.

GP for more years than I care to remember

If you are obese a doctor will help you NOTHING to worry about x
