Absence seizures hyperventilation?!

Question: Absence seizures hyperventilation?
A friend told me I have periods of stopping whatever I am doing, staring and ignoring what anyone else says. He told me that they last a couple of seconds to 30 seconds. This strongly resembles an absence seizure and I want him to prove to me that he is not joking. He is going to punch my arm whilst I have one of these episodes and then show me the red mark afterward.

I have just devised a means of testing this faster. I have heard that hyperventilation usually causes an absence seizure in individuals who suffer from them. I am putting up a stopwatch on the computer and if it suddenly skips forwards I will know I have had a seizure. Can you see any flaws in my plan? How long should I hyperventilate for to adequately test this? What should I do if I find I am having them?

Please do not write that absence seizures do not start in adulthood as I am 14 (which is just in the age group for the commencement of some manner of seizure disorder which causes this kind of seizure) and for all I know I have been having them for years (I am always accused of not paying attention etc.)

Thank you.

Answers:

Oh no, please do NOT try to provoke a seizure. If you really have epilepsy, you could trigger a big one.
Ask your parents to take you to a neurologist instead. They are more qualified of diagnosis and treating neurological disorders than 14-year-old!

Well,honesty...There isn't any 'real' answer to your question, because these supposed absence seizures your friend claims your having are not going to be diagnosed by these...what I call..'home techniques' you and this so-called friend of your have come up with. You could very well be putting your own health at risk by hyperventilating, and that punch in the arm...is outrageous to say the least.
The only thing I can offer to you...is a suggestion. And,that is.....talk to your parents, and I'm positive IF you were experiencing these supposed absence seizures...your parents would have seen this first hand, and not this so-called friend of yours.Talk with your parents, and ask them to take you to your/a doctor to be evaluated.
What you and this so-called friend are wanting to do is ridiculous, and may cause you serious health problems.
Good luck to you.
