is it true that its a bad idea to eat dairy food when you have a cold?!

Question: Is it true that its a bad idea to eat dairy food when you have a cold?
I have been told before when i have been sick with a common cold or the flu, that i should not eat dairy food because it may make my cold worse. Apparently it comes down to a bacteria thing??? I was just wondering if this as true & if anyone else has been told the same thing. Thank you.

Answers:

No that is not what happens. Milk does not have any bacteria that makes your cold worse. In SOME people, not all, drinking milk increases the amount of mucus produced on a temporary basis. Milk doesn't increase my mucus for example, so I often drink milk when I am sick instead of eating meals because I get nauseated easily when I have a fever. However my wife gets a lot of extra mucus from milk, so she can't drink it when she is sick.

Dairy tends to make your mucus thicker and harder to cough up, thats all I have ever heard about it never heard anything about bacteria.
