Can you get the cold from someone who is sick because of seasonal allergies?!

Question: Can you get the cold from someone who is sick because of seasonal allergies?
Ok, my brother is sick right now and has the cold symptoms. This i know is because he has weather allergies. Can i still get sick and catch the cold from him? Like he has a runny nose and stuff and the usual things when you have a cold. But this is because of weather allergies. I dont think it's an actual common cold. But will i still get sick from him!? I hope not...........please answer if you're absolutely positive, and not what you merely 'think.'

Answers:

Allergies and colds, while the symptoms may look similar, are completely different and caused by completely different things.

Allergies are not contagious. You may get allergies, but you won't catch them from your brother, you may get them because the two of you share your genetic heritage and you may share a genetic predisposition to having allergies...and then again, you may not. My brother and I both have allergies, but husband's brother has TERRIBLE allergies, for example, and my husband has none.

Allergies are caused by something you are born with that gives you an allergic reaction to certain things. Hayfever is one kind of allergy, ordinarily to things you breathe like pollen, dust, or cigarette smoke, and it can make a person sneeze, cough, get a stuffy, runny nose, and itchy watery eyes.

Many of those symptoms look like a cold, but a cold is caused by a virus that you catch from someone. An antihistamine tablet will make a person with an allergy feel better by stopping some of the symptoms; the antihistamine will not help a cold sufferer because it won't kill the cold virus.

Viruses are contagious...allergies are not. You cannot catch a cold from someone who does not have a cold, even if the symptoms look similar.

You catch a cold from someone with a cold. A cold is the result of a virus.

You are not going to catch anything from your brother's allergies.
