I always want to light something on fire?!

Question: I always want to light something on fire?
I always find the need to light a match or lighter to relieve stress, not sure why but it's become distrcting
I do it in school, home, ANYWERE! I simply stare at it and it's kind of like self injury with out pain and harm (lol) it's almost addicting! Do I have a disorder? I've gotten in trouble for it so many times!

Answers:

Yes you have a disorder called pyromania. It's an impulse disorder and is caused by stress or a undying need for power, destruction, purity and sanctity. Most people think it's a habit of wanting to destroy something where are pyromaniacs find it as a purifying source. It gives you control in your stress-filled life. It is a rare disorder and is mostly seen in children and young adults but rarely in adults. When you feel the urge to light a match/lighter feel free to do so in a non-harmful way. When you start to actually light other objects on fire you should probably find some help. I know from experience. I use to be a pyromaniac and loved to light candles, bonfires, and also melt plastic in my childhood to mid-teens. I ended up getting it under control myself and found other things to do. You could also try doing something with art to express yourself when stressed. It's okay if you don't have artistic skills. It's just a safer way to deal with stress and can also open up a more creative side. And if you want to make the project kind of dark, it's okay. It doesn't mean you're a dark person, it just expresses the mood you're in.

yes, and when this goes bad, you'll become an arsonist, burning everything you desire..
