Surgery soon, pretty scared?!

Question: Surgery soon, pretty scared?
I am having hardware taken out of my left leg later on this morning. My doctor said surgery will be about 45 minutes at the most. My mom talked to a nurse on the phone & told her how scared I was. The nurse said she would try and get the doctors to do my IV after I'm asleep & give me medicine to calm me down before surgery. I am so scared of the operation room & what if the medicine doesn't calm me down? My airway is alittle bad, but my mom said I'll be fine. I am so stressed & scared.
I am freaking out, I am scared I'll die, or wake up or even feel them working on my leg.
I feel so dumb for being scared, but I can't help it.
What do I do?

Answers:

It's okay to be scared. I would probably be nervous as you are so don't feel dumb because you're not. Once they sedate you, you won't feel a thing. It'll be like falling asleep and then you'll wake up when it's all done. You might be slightly groggy when you wake up and they should be giving you something for the pain so you shouldn't be in a lot of pain. Before you go you should find something to calm you down, like a good comedy, a hot cup of tea/coco, and possibly a book. Think of things that will keep your mind occupied and busy so that you won't think about the surgery. And just remember that your mom will be there the whole time and that it will all be over before you know it. Just concentrate on the recovery after and things that you want to do tomorrow. Thinking ahead of time will keep you mind busy as well. Hope your recovery goes well and I know that your surgery will.

Don't worry it's completely normal to feel scared about surgery. I would be terrified too! But i promise once you are sedated you wont feel a thing, you'll have a nice dream and when you wake up you wont even know anything has happened! Before you go in just try to do things to take your mind of it like listen to music or read a book, or anything you like doing. Good luck

dont be you will be just fine

You didn't Mention that you had any other health problems so you should be fine. Just try not to think about it that much. Your get to be put to sleep anyway and you don't normally wake up on your own, they will have to wake you up. And I promise that you will not wake up during surgery thats like a 1/500 chance. You will be fine just maybe a little sore when you get up. But don't worry you will live!!
Ps. I have to get to teeth removed next week and I'm freaking out that their not going to be putting me to sleep, so consider yourself lucky!

I'm 13... And I have a brain(:
