Is my brother addicted to cocaine?!

Question: Is my brother addicted to cocaine?
I am sitting here with the worst chills by thinking about this and I just don't know how to approach it. My brother came and visited for a few weeks and we smoked some weed and stuff then he drove up north to DC for a night and came back and said he tried cocaine, as soon as I heard that I got scared, and tried to hide it because he always told me (before he tried cocaine), That I can smoke weed, but when I get older and have more money, I might want to try something else and he told me don't try anything else. Well 1 and half years later, hes the one who is trying it. He said it made his face so numb he couldn't feel his self swallow. I told him if thats all it done, its not worth it brother. He said don't worry, marijuana is my drug of choice. Obviously not, because 2 days ago he was at my bus stop in his truck with a bowl pack ready to smoke. We spark up the bowl, and he said he would like to have a little baggy, we don't say that when we want weed, we say we want tree. Well I said a little baggy of what? He said a little baggy of some coke. I said come on brother, he said don't worry I won't do it. He left to go to DC for a few hours. Came back home and was asleep at about 8 PM. I noticed him grinding his teeth, as soon as I noticed that. I cried for at least 30 minutes sitting here watching my brother grind his teeth, and I had to close the door because I didn't want mom seeing him grind his teeth. He has never grinded his teeth, he has always partied a little bit and smoked weed all the time, but when he went to DC I noticed, my brother is addicted to something he always told me to never try. Which makes the pain even worse. He is selling himself to buy this drug, because he has no job. I now see my brother dying by either aids, or cocaine addiction. I already seen my dad go down in addiction, now my brother? How can I stop this? After re reading it I remember that I forgot to put in the fact that he always has a stopped up nose and it sounds horrible when he tries to breath through it. He said thats what coke does to you. Anyways, how can I stop this? How can I get my brother back to just smoking weed and not the coke?

Answers:

Okay, first off, just flat out telling him to stop is NOT going to work. You need to show him love, support, and compassion, and tell him how it makes you feel that he's doing coke. No anger involved. Tell him that it breaks your heart to see him do coke, and show him that you really do care about him and his safety.

Rehab. Help your brother through it.

Well cocaine is a very short lasting drug t doesn't get you high for long. If people have enough they will do several lines in one night. But if he can only afford a little and is only expermentng he might not be addicted yet. Don't assume he is selling himself because there a many many different ways of getting money without a job or making deals without money for drugs. Something drug dealers will do with drugs as addictive as cocaine sometimes is give it for free for a little while until they are hooked and then they have a guaranteed customer. Try to talk to him but not to sternly if he is addicted because then he will choose the drug and hide it from you and be secretive about it. He needs to come to the realization that he doesn't want to do it and know that he can come to you for help. Unless he is a minor in that case go to your school counselor because then legally they can get involved and help your brother. Your parents may not know how to deal with it or push him away. I know it sounds harsh but you know what is best for your brother
