Does taking more than recommended, work?!

Question: Does taking more than recommended, work?
Ok so say the bottle of ibuprofen says to take 1 tablet of 400mg but 2 seems to work really well for me and 1 doesn't work well. But it isnt good to take more than the recommended dosage, so i dont want to take the extra if it actually isnt helping much more. Do you know if the doubled amount really does work more/longer lasting or if its doing more damage than good. I take it for muscle pain in my leg from after a surgery and i have taken many different types of pain killers, besides morphine, this works the best.

Answers:

There's nothing wrong with taking that much. 800mg of ibuprofen wont hurt you. Just make sure you don't go over the recommended amount for 24 hours.

is there a history of stomach bleeding or ulcers in your family? i am only 100 lbs and i will take 2 or 3.
but, i only take ibuprofen one or two times every two weeks. at the most. i havent had any problems, but you probably take ibuprofen more than i do.
try alternating between using ibuprofen [in the morning or when it is hurting at work or school] and a gel like icy hot [at night after a shower. or, if you shower in the morning, maybe soak your leg in a tub of lukewarm to hot water for 15 minutes and follow with icy hot]

just an idea

Usually, since the calculations are only based on weight/height etc., they can't specifically determine exactly what is the right dosage for you. Now, doubling it may be going a little too far. I would suggest to use a pill-splitting tool to take 1 and a half tablets, rather than taking 2.

its impossible to try to outsmart the creators of the medicine--they spent years studying the effects of the medicine. i would just stick with the recommended dose. you have no idea what the longterm effects might be.

the first sentence was a partial quote--i don't remember what it was from though. something online about trying to get more out of medications, or something

Two things can happen from taking more than the recommended dose.

1. It will make you sick.

2. Taking more than the recommended dosage has no affect, so it would be a waste.
