When did smoking Marijuana become a good thing?!

Question: When did smoking Marijuana become a good thing?
Many people claim it to be good for your health, An anti-depressant, A medicine and what really bugs me is when they say its natural to use. First of all I don't see anything natural about taking the effort to roll a blunt and use fire to smoke a plant. Meaning using a man made object "lighter or matches" to light a man made blunt or stuffed pipe or bong, etc. That is therefor stuffed with the Marijuana.

A lot of people claim Marijuana is better then doing anything else. "Alcohol, Cocaine, Heroin, etc."
Although. Better is by defenition, Something that is gooder then another thing in comparison that is already good. There is nothing good about drugs. So therefor, Marijuana isn't better. The better choice would be living sober and living a healthy life. Which in my opinion. Is the real gift to freedom.

Your thoughts, opinions, agreements or arguments?

Answers:

I think it became a good thing the moment it started growing!

I agree with you in part, because of course it's not healthy to inhale fumes into your lungs, but I think the argument that cannabis is harmless remains, because of all the other far worse things that people do. Such as man-made drugs and alcohol, which is STILL the biggest killer out of any drug, yet perfectly legal!

Cannabis really isn't that bad, just like chocolate isn't that bad so long as you have it in moderation. Cannabis chills you out, makes you mellow and also gives you extremely creative thoughts. Of course it has been linked to schizophrenia but some people would always be prone to mental illness like that and you can't really fully blame cannabis.

A happy medium would be laws put into place to control cannabis use by people who at least know what the effects are. I'm fed up of hearing horror stories that I know perfectly well to be embellished and not true. The biggest danger of cannabis is becoming a lazy stoner, if you can steer away from that, then it's pretty much risk free.

smoked cannabis for over 10 years and investigated the subject many times!

I don't think the prevailing opinion is that it is "good" for anyone. Rather what one hears most often is that it is not really that "bad". Just because something is not "good", does not mean necessarily that it is "bad".

Used in moderation, marijuana is not really harmful. The argument for legalization is never really about abusing the drug, but using it.

There are many things that are legal that when abused are harmful; Alcohol, cigarettes, red meat, sugar, fried foods, etc.

let me first point out some fallacy: "better is by defenition, Something that is gooder then another thing in comparison that is already good"
so if i say "i have a cold, but it's better than having cancer." then cancer is good?

and marijuana is clinically proven to have medicinal benefits, including use as an anti-depressant, cancer treatment, and several other uses.

smoking it is just like smoking a cigarette, except that it can help you... and it doesn't contain arsenic and 50 other harmful chemicals.

Marijuana kills brain cells. Users always talk so slow even if they aren't tripping. I live in South Africa and we call it Dagga.

Good for clothes - bad to use as a drug.

I don't think it good. it's never good. it just make oneself get out of the right frame of mind.

I dont know that people all really think its a good thing, but people thinking its a dark evil thing went away with all the refermadness bs the previous generation wasnt smart enough to figure out (I guess, on the previous gen part).

For example, we all know the only reason fda/gov studies state that smoked marijuana has x amount more tar than smoked tobacco is because they mixed stems and seeds and leaves into the joint. When you put bud only, it has drammatically less tar and smoke. We all know that smoked marijuana has lots of chemicals. But we also know that smoked marijuana has less chemicals than cigs before they are even lit - we lost the part about thinking it was dark and evil when you people (gov/fda/etc) started making up these "facts" about how marijuana was sooooooo much worse than the other drugs they have legalized and support, when their facts actually show its the saffest.

Ohhhhhh noooo, smoked marijuana has over 400 chemicals..... guess what, that cig has over 4000. If thats really a reason to keep it illegal, then the products funding that research also needs to be illegal.

We also all know that no, marijuana has not really increased in strength all that much, no matter how much the gov wants us to believe that. They have biased sampling methods, and biased testing methods. The amount of thc the plant will have will depend on its growing conditions and whether or not it was pollenated or grown seedless. And guess what? The seedless marijuana with higher thc got that way the same way your seedless white grapes got that way. They controlled the growing environment, did not allow male plants to mature, and there ya go. Those growing techniques have been around for decades, centuries, certainly before the fed gov criminalized marijuana and absolutely since the 80s when they started claiming all that crap.

We know that marijuana isnt a gateway drug, that false science has labled it that. Its a correlation only, and a very biased on. They took a bunch of people in court ordered heroine rehab and asked them what their first illegal drug was. Stupid question. First illegal drug is irrelavent to a chemical gateway. A chemical gateway would be dependent on the first pharmacological effects experienced by the person, which could have been legal or illegal, otc, legit rx'ed, caffeine, etc.... If there is a gateway, I would argue its social and based on crossing the lines of breaking a law or being exposed to harder drugs while buying marijuana on the black market.

Most people into talking about how good it is are typically vaporizing rather than smoking. With vaporization, there is no chemical combustion, so no smoke, no tar - what you are ingesting actually is natural plant. But, the natural comparison is because it is generally consumed straight from the ground as a plant rather than the crap commercial tobacco or most of our food chain goes through.

Marijuana better than doing anything else.... you say its best to live healthy clean sober life. I ask, are you trully doing that? Being drug free really only depends on how you define drug. Few people are really drug free and sober, most people just dont define caffeine and sugar and other drugs most of us take on a regular basis because they are legal. They dont see how these drugs also impair your behavior, driving skills, inhibitions. They claim tobacco isnt a drug and doesnt effect their brain while they literally have to chain smoke in order to keep their temper in check.

My general opinion is that people have always and will always do drugs of some sort. On a recreational basis marijuana is safer than virtually any other drug used recreationally. There are people on record from the fda stating that, there are other on record comments stating that our laws on marijuana is what is feuling the drug war

On a medical basis, not only is it safer than most drugs (including other narcotics for rx'ed/medical purposes) but produces the same anti pain, anti nausea, anti depressant qualities without all the high THEY produce. A question I answered yesterday asked what was the point in med marijuana when you can go get a pill, someone said the pill doesnt get you high. Thats a load of bs too. Yes, vicodin makes people high. So does oxy, and at normal pharmaceutical doses. Can you imagine what it does on an over dose? If getting high was my only point, I would have stayed with all the rx narcotics. Cant beat a cabinet full of xanax and oxy. Sure, marijuana absolutely makes me high. But you will never convince me that I am more sober and safer on xanax (not to mention the chemical addiction differences there).

Edit
Someone above mentioned it kills brain cells. The difference is, I have actually read those studies. Maybe you should too. Its easy to kill brain cells with oxgen deprivation. They fed lab animals too much smoke with too little oxygen for extended periods of time.

You can also read a lot of those studies and see that they are dosing small lab animals with massive doses humans wouldnt even consider taking. Its kinda like causing cancer in mice by giving them enough splenda for 1000 human lifetimes. Too much of anything is a bad thing. Moderation.

I agree with you, Alcohol isn't bad! it's only bad when it's abused! people have to have self control with a substance if it takes affect of a person's brain. A bottle of beer or a glass of wine isn't going to kill you. It's when you continue drinking to get drunk which is something people crave that their stupid actions take effect. Pot still has it's negative side effects. The fact that you are still inhaling smoke into your lungs still causes damage to them. It's a hallucinogen and when someone who takes that and get's behind the wheel of a car can only cause problems just as bad. It distorts your judgement.
