Mucus is not a symptom of bowel cancer, so stop worrying about it. Bowel cancer is diagnosed by colonoscopy (have you had one?) and is pretty unusual in someone your age anyway.
You are making more mucus than usual, for some unknown reason, but your body makes mucus all the time to protect the linings of both the digestive system and the respiratory system. Think of it as post-nasal drip for now.
You may be sensitive to wheat anyway, even if the test says you are not. So switch to rice for a few days and see if it helps.

As a fellow IBS suffer I can assure you that for IBS suffers mucous in the stools is a normal everyday occurrence and very common.
However if there are any changes in your bowel habits at all then get them checked over but rest assure mucous and IBS go hand in hand.
