Why do I get shaky after not eating for a while?!

Question: Why do I get shaky after not eating for a while?
I get like this sometimes when I haven't eaten for more than 4 or 5 hours. My hands get weak and I feel very sleepy at the same time. What could it mean? .....sure hope I don't have diabetes :/

Answers:

It could still be diabetes. You really need to check your blood sugar levels on a regular basis regardless, especially if it's in your family history. Simply eating will help level it back up but it's what happens a couple of hours after you have eaten that you need to watch. If you really are worried about diabetes then you need to talk to your doctor about it. But if it's just a matter of hypoglycemia then making sure you eat every few hours BEFORE you start to get sick will help. You might also wanna invest in some "glucose tabs". So called because they are tablets made of glucose (sugar) but you really need to check to make sure your not diabetic before taking the tabs anyway. Those tabs are only good if you are out driving and don't have the time to stop to eat and are getting to the point of you need something ASAP then those tabs work well. Do you feel sleepy when you eat? That could be a sign of diabetes as well as many other things of course.

The above link is from the American Diabetes Association website on symptoms of diabetes. If it doesn't work for some reason, just go to www.diabetes.org (you might have to type that in) or just use your regular search engine and search. "American Diabetes Association" and that should direct to their main website.

If you haven't been eating healthy, it could be vitamin deficiency, or you could need more protein. If you eat a balanced diet and it continues, I'd advise seeking medical help, as it could be diabetes.

Have you lost weight lately?
Have you been peeing often?

These CAN be signs of diabetes and the earlier you check it out, the better.

It's called hypoglycemia. It happens when your sugar level drops. It's pretty normal. You just need to eat something.
