Getting blood taken soon and I get sick easily....?!

Question: Getting blood taken soon and I get sick easily....?
Is there anything that I can do the help from getting so sick? Should I eat? Should I not? I have a really bad cold and I think I have a sinus infection (that's why I am going) but I have other health problems that denote me getting my blood drawn. I could always reschedule when I am not as sick but I know myself and I probably won't do it forever. Is there any techniques that would help more than others? Thank you!

Answers:

With your bad cold, are you already nauseous? If so, I would eat just a little so that it's not enough to upset your stomach but enough that it has something in it. If you're not nauseous already then I would eat like you normally do. And drink water!! Not just right before when you get your blood taken but the several hours (or even day) prior to give it time to get into your system. It makes it easier for the phlebotomist (the person drawing your blood, that's their title) to find your vein and it makes your body less upset if that fluid (the blood) is taken.

*** If you're having your lipids or cholesterol checked you will most likely have to be fasting, so then you wouldn't be able to eat anything anyway. But you should still drink water.

When you get your blood drawn, try to focus on your breathing. Alot of people hold their breath, and that contributes to them not feeling well. Look away, focus on something you can look at. Talk to the phlebotomist and make conversation to help distract you. And just before you get your blood drawn, eat a piece of candied ginger or take something that has ginger in it. Ginger helps with nausea.
(UNLESS like I said you're supposed to be fasting, then you can't eat that either)

Good luck!! :)

It's just a small incision, just chill, it won't hurt that much. When you fall down and cut your skin that's generally a bigger cut in comparison to this.
