How do I get my mom to stop taking strong medication?!

Question: How do I get my mom to stop taking strong medication?
She recently broke her arm.
I understand it's very painful for her but she takes more than she can handle I think.
This has been a problem long before she broke her arm, she was a bit of an addict.
She stopped taking so many pills but now she's taking like 1/4 of the amount she used to take, and i'm so happy for her!
But some times when we're at a store she'll stop to take some medication for her arm and a few minutes after she starts slurring her words, repeating her self, and telling people things that don't make sense.
I feel like a horrible daughter for saying this but im pretty embarrassed of my mom. Even more than that though I don't want her to hurt herself by continuously taking to much medication.
Every time I try to discuss this with her she gets really offended and she never listens to me.
I just want to be able to talk to my mom whenever not only on certain days. It really sucks. Sometimes I'll go out with my friends and she'll be pissed and ask me why I never told her bye, when I do she's just to full of medication when I tell her and it really sucks. Can anyone help me? please help me figure out a way to get my mom to cut back or something.

Answers:

You need to seek the help of a qualified health care professional.
I know you may feel it's sort of disloyal or be accused of over-reacting, but it does sound like your mum needs help.
Addictions are beatable but without the right course of action, your poor mum will continue to collect addictions.
It is so easy to become addicted to pain-killers & it does take a lot of courage to face up to this addiction.
Ask your school nurse. If she's not sympathetic you may have to see your private practitioner, GP, doctor & start from there.
Explain it exactly as you've explained on here & hopefully pretty soon the correct help will be organised.
Your mum is very lucky to have you, never think she won't thank you in the long run.
