Can incense lower your blood-pressure?!

Question: Can incense lower your blood-pressure?
my grandfather (88) has this problem that he occasionally faints due to a short spike of low bloodpressure, we found some ways to keep it stable and since then he hasn't fainted while he's at home, but when he goes to church, he faints quite a lot. the ambulancepersonnel said this happens quite often at churches but didn't know what caused it, so i thought maybe it's the incense that lowers the bloodpressure. anyone knows of anything in a church that might lower the bloodpressure? (and maybe also things to prevent it)

Answers:

The church for some can be a form of meditation or deep relaxation, but that's not likely the cause. Neither is the idea of the incense, unless there's some other established breathing issues.

I bounced this off my fiancee', a nurse at Wyoming Medical Center, and she had an immediate response. She said the people involved are probably heavier, and they are going down on their knees and getting back up several times, and this would lead to a lower blood pressure in two possible, different ways. Either the patient is really working hard to get up on their feet to induce the fainting from low blood pressure, or the pressure on getting up stimulates the vagal nerve that causes all your arteries/vessels to dialate a small amount.

Any time your blood pressure dips below 75 on the high end, you run the risk of hitting the floor via faint spell. Not likely to be induced by incense or other aroma therapy, however.

maybe the Jamaican kind. lol
