its a deficiency of red blood cells and/or haemoglobin which causes the blood to have a reduced ability to transfer oxygen to the tissues which can cause tissue hypoxia(deprivation of a part of the body of adequate oxygen supply) there are loads of different types of anemia and causes of it but the most common is a lack of iron if you go to your doctor he'll do a full blood test to see if you have it and its usually treated with iron supplements
