Is it too late?!

Question:

Is it too late?

I am 30 years old and for about the past 10 years have been a heavy drinker. I have recently stopped drinking and found God again. I am so excited about starting my new life, but I am worried. Have the years of alcohol abuse caused irreversible damage to my body? I am otherwise healthy (eat well, active) and have good blood pressure and so on........

Answers:

Oh my goodness! I am so, so proud of you! Congratulations!!! First, re-establishing your relationship with God through Jesus Christ. I have to turn your comment about 'finding God again' around. He was always there for you - you just needed to let Him know you were back and wanted to re-establish your relationship and fellowship with him.

Secondly, I want to say that I am so happy for you and your desire to stop drinking. I am not sure what you call heavy - but I was there too. On an average, I think I was drinking about 3 fifths per week. Vodka and juice. I decided that at my age and desire to live, I needed to stop. Cold. I believe my faith in God is what helped me to finally realize that I needed to make some changes in my life. I never had one withdrawal. I do have hypertension - however, when I stopped, my blood pressure went down considerably and I might be soon getting off the medication. My energy increased, my mind was more alert and my desire to do things increased. Alcohol can cause some very serious damage, but you are much younger than I am. And you know what - I am just crazy enough to believe that your faith in God and opening up the door to your fellowship with Jesus will be all you need to see your through. Get some good vitamins to supplement your meals. Exercise and keep yourself busy. I honestly believe and pray that you will not have any effects. You go Girl! Find yourself in the Word - "I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me" - Phill. I am so excited for you!!! Praise the Lord!! You know he wants us in peace, having His joy and in health and wholeness. You are there sweetheart! You are there!! Bless!
