My dad suddenly collapsed?!

Question:

My dad suddenly collapsed?

It's 4am but my dad was still up after having 2 cans of stout (he's used to it since young) so he's definitely not drunk. Suddenly he just fell down and couldnt get up. We wanted to get him to the hospital but he doesnt want to. After a while he got him to sit up and he started talking gibberish and kept saying he wants to go to bed.

Is this serious? Should we insist on sending him to the hospital now or wait till morning?

Please help!

Could this be a mild stroke or something? He got up and kept saying he's alright, and even seemed happy. It's kind of creeping me out

Answers:

Wow...I'm really sorry that happened to your Dad. That must be a scary situation to experience. My understanding of a stroke is that it is due to brain abnormalities so it affects one side of the body normally.

Symptoms include blurred vision in one eye.
Numbness or weakness on one side of the face, arm or leg.
Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding.
Trouble walking, dizziness or loss of co-ordination.
And severe headache.

If you think it was a stoke you need to get him to a hospital right away. Also...it could be an alcohol-prescription drug adverse reaction...check to see if he is taking any medications.

Medicine is so advanced today. The doctors will take very good care of your dad if his condition warrants so. You and your dad will be in my thoughts...
