What can I use for sunburn relief?!

Question:

What can I use for sunburn relief?

Is there any natural(spices, liquids, etc), around the house stuff? If not, what other stuff would work?

I don't have any aloe in the house, but I do have a shampoo with Aloe essence. Would that help or make it worse?

Please help =(

Answers:

The shampoo may not help and might sting.

A luke warm (almost cool or cool water is best. Avoid any hot showers) bath with oatmeal should help. If you chop the oatmeal fine in a food grinder or blender it works nicely, but it isn't necessary. One or two cups per normal bath or as much as you like is fine. Sit in it as long as you can to help get the inflammation down, relieve pain and itch.

A box of baking soda added to a almost cool bath would help too. A pound would be even better.

Actual ice in a towel applied would help get the inflammation and pain down.

Ibuprofen orally as directed would help.

The idea is to cool it down and moisturize it like crazy. Do not use petroleum/oil to moisturize with until the redness clears up, as it will trap the heat in, causing more discomfort. After the redness clears, then moisturizing with any vaseline/petrolatum based prouduct would be great.

Drink plenty of water.

cool, wet towels applied to painful areas are a good thing as well.

Those are all the things a person usually has in their cupboards that I can think of.

Avoid acidic products. Anything that would sting if put in your eyes is a thing to avoid.

Many people are allergic to aloe and I haven't found it to be particularly helpful, despite claims to the contrary. It does seem to help prevent infection in scrapes.

Hope you feel better soon.
