What causes morning spasms?!

Question:

What causes morning spasms?

I usually go to bed quite early (10pm) and wake up around 5.00am after which i doze off lightly for a couple of hours. During that time I often experience neck or stomach spasms - some of which have made me almost sit bolt upright. I do have very vivid dreams during these last 2 hours and for some reason Im more tired than i was at 5.00am?

Any ideas?

Qualified answers only, please.

Answers:

Actually, most are going to tell you this is lack of REM sleep, but, you are more than likely experiencing too much (average is around 20% during your total sleep time . You should cycle through about every 90-120 minutes. REM is often misinterpreted as the deepest stage. It is opposite. You can be aroused easily from this stage. REM will occur in most at 4-6 am. It is normal to wake from REM. When someone is very active in REM it causes them to feel over worked, despite the fact that they have slept for 8-10 hrs. The only way to find out for a fact, would be to have a Nocturnal Sleep Study. It is considered a form of REM behavior disorder. Overactive dreams are also in this category as long as you recall the dream. Google RBD to get more info.
