They are the same thing. Piles is a slang term. Hemorrhoids are essentially varicose veins of the anus. They often occur because of straining to have bowel movements, but can occur because of other health issues. It is rare that a small child would have them, but it is possible. Have a pediatrician check the child to be sure that this is what it is. Try to normalize the child's bowel habits by having him eat more fruit and using mineral oil or introducing more fiber into his diet. Good luck.
