Are my lungs screwed?!

Question:

Are my lungs screwed?

I have been smoking since i was 15 and im 18 i want to quit but it is realy hard and i think the damage has been done. what are good ways to quit. i think i can handle the regular time but what about after i eat? a lot of it has to do with habit and just having something to do

Answers:

You need nicotine gum or a patch and there are behavioral training methods that can help you with the habitual activities. You need to plan ahead so that you have an alternative activity planned after a meal, like chewing breath freshening gum or the nicotine gum, and gradually wean yourself down to other gums.

If you are used to smoking with an activity give yourself something else to hold onto like a water bottle or something else. Since the tobacco companies did increase the way that the nicotine is delivered starting in 1997 it really is harder to quit.

This is from another article at About.com:
"When you quit smoking, the benefits begin within minutes of your last cigarette.

At 20 minutes after quitting:

* blood pressure decreases
* pulse rate drops
* body temperature of hands and feet increases.

At 8 hours:

* carbon monoxide level in blood drops to normal
* oxygen level in blood increases to normal

At 24 hours:

* chance of a heart attack decreases

At 48 hours:

* nerve endings start regrowing
* ability to smell and taste improve"
"The Improvements Continue...
The benefits of quitting smoking are just beginning.

Between 2 weeks and 3 months:

* circulation improves
* walking becomes easier
* lung function increases

So many positive changes occur during the first 3 months of smoking cessation. The worst of nicotine withdrawal subsides within the first month. Now the focus needs to be on learning how to decipher and reprogram the psychological tugs or urges to smoke.
Knowledge is Power"

Other things that I have heard from friends who quit: you will get less colds and sinus infections and your lungs will get better and better. Drink lots of water it will help you detox and take a good multi vitamin with minerals.
