What is it that attracts mosquitoes to blood?!

Question:

What is it that attracts mosquitoes to blood?

Is it blood type? Foods you eat? Amount of sugar in the blood? Scents you wear? Clothing colors? The things love me and if I can change something so they don't stalk me year-round, I would be ecstatic.

Answers:

I saw a documentary on this not long ago. Mosquitoes are drawn by perspiration (sweat). Surprised? Me too.

I have heard that if you start a regimen of vitamin B1 several weeks prior to mosquito season, they are less likely to bite....although I've never tried this approach so I can't vouch for it. Have you tried Skin-So-Soft? I've also heard that rubbing Bounce dryer sheets over your skin will repel them. Again, no guarantees...just things to try.

NOTE: According to a website I just checked, the best defense is DEET which is found in most commercial mosquito repellents. It also says that light colored clothing is less attractive to the little buggers. Also, the vitamin B1 mentioned above has not been proven to lessen bites, but they will itch less. You may want to check-out the website below. Good luck.
